NAD+ IV drip: is it actually worth it? (An honest review)

For years I dipped in and out of journaling without really understanding what I was doing or why it wasn't working. Now I genuinely cannot not do it. Here's what changed.

About the Author: amy@amyelizabethprior.com

As always, I’ll be honest with you from the start, because that’s more useful than another glossy wellness post that makes you feel like someone else has their life completely sorted and you’re the only one still running on caffeine and willpower.

When I had my NAD+ IV drip, I was not in a great season. I was exhausted in a way that sleep wasn’t touching. I was juggling a house sale, solo parenting, multiple businesses, and a mental load that felt like it had been left on high for too long. My head was foggy, my nervous system felt like it had been on high alert for months, and I’d had a vague “I think I might be getting ill” feeling for days that I couldn’t shake. I’m not asking for the violin, just keeping it real!

So when I heard about NAD+ IV drips, vitamin infusions delivered straight into your bloodstream, in your own home, by an actual doctor, I thought: what the hell have I got to lose.

Spoiler: nothing. I lost nothing. I gained quite a lot, actually.

But first, what even is NAD+ please?

Before I tell you what happened, let me give you the short version of the science, because it’s going to be pretty useful for understanding why this isn’t just a glorified vitamin injection.

NAD+ stands for Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide. No quiz at the end, I promise. It’s a coenzyme found in every single cell in your body, and it is fundamental to how those cells produce energy. Your mitochondria, the powerhouses inside each cell, depend entirely on NAD+ to convert nutrients into ATP, which is the molecule that actually fuels everything you do. Think, move, focus, heal, regulate your mood, repair DNA. All of it.

The problem is that NAD+ levels decline naturally with age, and they decline significantly faster when you add in chronic stress, poor sleep, environmental toxins, and the kind of sustained high-output season that many women are living in without really acknowledging! By the time most of us notice we’re running low, we’ve been running low for a WHILE!

Low NAD+ looks like persistent fatigue that sleep doesn’t fix. Brain fog. Difficulty concentrating. That particular kind of exhausted where you’re tired but you can’t switch off. The “why can’t I remember what I came upstairs for” feeling that you’ve been putting down to being busy, but which is actually your cells not producing energy efficiently.

An NAD+ IV drip bypasses the digestive system entirely and delivers it directly into your bloodstream, which means your cells get immediate access to it rather than whatever percentage survives the digestion process from an oral supplement. The science on NAD+ benefits is robust and growing rapidly. Research published in 2025 showed NAD+ supplementation helped with long COVID fatigue and brain fog. Separate research consistently links NAD+ with reduced inflammation, DNA repair, mitochondrial function, and what scientists are calling “longevity gene” activation. It participates in over 500 enzymatic reactions in the body. It is not a trend in the way that some wellness trends are trends. It is a molecule your body actually needs!

My experience: what actually happened

I had mine done by Dr Randeep Bhella from IV at Home, trust me, it matters who you have doing this.

Dr Bhella is not a wellness practitioner who did a training course in Ibiza! He is an actual doctor. A proper one. He arrived at my house, set up in my sitting room, explained everything clearly, did all the necessary checks, and was the calmest, most professional presence. There was nothing scary or clinical about the experience.

The drip itself felt a bit bizarre in my chest and stomach at first, a kind of internal sensation that’s hard to describe other than “odd but not unpleasant.” About ten minutes in I felt briefly lightheaded, had some water, and was then fine. And then, probably an hour or so in, something changed.

The low-level “I think I’m getting ill” feeling I’d had all morning literally disappeared. The headache I’d woken up with was gone. The fog lifted in a way that felt less like a coffee hit and more like someone had opened a window. I felt calmer. Clearer. More like myself than I had in a while, and in a way that wasn’t buzzy or artificial.

Was some of that the rest, the permission to sit still for an hour, the hydration? Possibly. I’m not going to claim more certainty than I have. But I will say that the quality of that clarity felt different to anything caffeine or sleep alone has given me, and I noticed it clearly enough to still be thinking about it now.

The conversation I didn’t expect…

One of the things I didn’t anticipate was how much Dr Bhella and I ended up talking, not just about NAD+ and supplements and cells, but about energy, nervous system regulation, and the difference between genuinely investing in your health and simply patching over depletion with the next thing that promises to help.

We were completely aligned on something I think about constantly in my own work: that most people are treating the symptoms of a depleted nervous system rather than addressing the nervous system itself. That the bottleneck is rarely strategy or information or even time. It’s capacity! It’s the internal resource that allows you to make good decisions, show up consistently, and build the dream life you’re working towards.

That’s not a new idea for me. It’s the foundation of everything I do with the women I work with. But hearing it reflected back from a doctor’s perspective, grounded in the biology of cellular energy, felt significant in a way I didn’t expect from what I’d imagined would be a fairly transactional health appointment.

So is it worth it? The honest answer

Yes, with some important context.

The science is real. NAD+ decline is real, the IV delivery method has superior bioavailability compared to oral supplements, and the research is consistently pointing in the direction of meaningful benefits for energy, cognitive function, cellular repair, and long-term health. Dr Bhella is excellent and the at-home model removes the barrier of clinic appointments and travel time, which for most women in a demanding season of life is not a minor thing, let’s be real!

But I want to be honest about where I am with it, because I haven’t solved everything… yet! I’ve had it once. I would absolutely have it again. If I could build it into my regular health investment I would, because I think the cumulative benefits from regular sessions are where the real long-term value sits, and the research supports this. But I’m also in a single-mum, paying for absolutely everything and a pretty expensive rental, season where I’m making intentional decisions about where finances go, and that means I haven’t made it a monthly fixture yet.

What I do know is that it changed something that nothing else had in that particular stretch of time, and for someone in genuine depletion, that matters massively.

This is not a treatment for women who are slightly tired on a Wednesday. It’s a treatment for women who are running a high-output life, who have probably been in stress mode for longer than they’ve admitted, whose nervous systems are absolutely done-in, and who are ready to invest in the physical infrastructure that supports everything else they’re trying to build. If that’s you, I would encourage you to look into it properly rather than filing it under “nice to have one day.”

What else IV at Home offer

While I’m here, it’s worth knowing that IV at Home offer a full range of doctor-led treatments, all delivered at home in Oxfordshire, the Cotswolds, and London. These aren’t cookie-cutter wellness packages. They’re medically designed, doctor-administered, and targeted at specific needs.

A few that stood out to me as particularly relevant for the women who read this:

The ADHD Focus Drip is formulated to support sharper focus and calm clarity, helping to regulate dopamine levels and reduce the overactive mental noise that makes sustained attention genuinely difficult. For anyone with ADHD who has spent years fighting their brain rather than working with it, this is worth knowing about… I will get this one next time!

The Menopausal Support Drip addresses the fatigue, brain fog, mood fluctuations, and sleep disruption that so many women in perimenopause and menopause are dealing with, often without adequate support elsewhere. This season of life deserves actual intervention, not just being told to get more sleep, or “just get on with it”.

The Iron Therapy Drip delivers fast-absorbing iron directly into the bloodstream, bypassing the gut issues that make oral iron supplements genuinely miserable for a lot of women, and gets to work addressing the kind of fatigue that comes from iron deficiency significantly faster than tablets.

Blood Testing and Health MOTs are also available, which I think is arguably the most underused thing on the list. If you’ve been feeling off and not been able to identify why, actual data from a doctor-administered blood test is a much better starting point than guessing.

They also do events, and yes, a wellness hen-do with IV drips and vision boards is apparently a thing, and honestly it sounds considerably more useful than a spa day that leaves you feeling temporarily relaxed and then exactly the same as before.

How to book (and your discount)

If this is something you want to explore, IV at Home are based in Oxfordshire and cover the Cotswolds and London. You can find them at ivathome.net or on Instagram at @ivathomewellness.

Dr Bhella has given me a code to share: use AMY20 for 20% off your first booking, and send them a DM on Instagram mentioning Amy Elizabeth Prior sent you to make sure the discount is applied.

I’d also recommend having a conversation with them first about which treatment is most appropriate for where you are. This is not a one-size-fits-all service and part of what makes it worth the investment is the medical expertise behind it.

“The fog lifted in a way that felt less like a coffee hit and more like someone had opened a window. Calmer. Clearer. More like myself than I had been in a while.”

One last thing…

The reason I’m writing about this on a site that’s primarily about decluttering, identity, and life transformation is that I genuinely believe they are all the same conversation.

The capacity to change, to make decisions from a clear head, to build something intentionally rather than just reacting to whatever’s loudest, that capacity requires an energy that most of us are not actively maintaining. We invest in the outer work, the systems, the strategy, the plans, and we chronically underinvest in the physical foundation that makes any of it possible.

Prioritising your health isn’t a luxury. It’s the base layer for everything. And looking after your nervous system, whether that’s through sleep, nutrition, therapy, or occasionally having a doctor come to your sitting room and plug your cells back in, is not self-indulgence. It’s self-responsibility.

Which, if you’ve spent any time reading this site, you’ll know is something I feel very strongly about.

I go into the nervous system piece, and why it affects everything from your home to your relationships to your business results, in more depth on the How to Break Up With Your Stuff podcast.

And if you want to look at the bigger picture, the whole life reset rather than individual interventions, that’s what Break Up With Your Stuff is built for. Join the interest list here and I’ll let you know when the next round opens.
